An Ode to Onions and Tomatoes

This title may sound too poetic but you are not going to read a poem below,it's jus gayathri's way of eulogizing the saviours of amateur chefs like me.After the initial fiasco of Ladies finger masala curry and Hyderabadi biriyani decided to follow the universal truth "Make simple food,it tastes yummy".This is where onions and tomatoes enter the scene.

With jus these two vital ingredients you could come up with the most delicious, mouth watering food in the world, to name a few: yellow dal, black dal, methi dal, sprouts dal, onion cucumber sandwich, onion tomato sandwich, onion cucumber tomato sandwich, vegetable stew, onion tomato masala, onion tomato chutney etc etc........the list goes on and on and on.....

Ghosh!! Can't imagine a cook in me without these onions!!!

Few tips to deal with onions.
1.Cut the onions vertically to 2 pieces and soak it in water for about 2 minutes before chopping them to fine pieces, you'll never have to shed those crocodile tears.
2.Fried onions always taste better than boiled ones.

Will talk in detail about tomatoes in my next blog till then Happy Reading!!!

hey gayathri, that was something that really had me smiling.tomatoes and onions???--well, i couldn't agree more with you about the scope they offer in terms variously tasting dishes...but hey!!!..i think u missed something important--THE POTATO....it's one of the easiest to cook with a great ability to gel well with most vegetables in most forms.(that i spoilt even the potato once ,is a different story)...second advantage is that it very easily adds volume to food(much needed for hogs like me)......and of course u're not going to get a salary-hike for knowing they're extremely rich sources of carbohydrates.

You should try skipping the onions sometimes. Your vegetable can turn out extremely tasty even without those tragedy movie type scenes :)
